Zabar (20-6798888), on Van Baerlestraat. This is walking distance from the area where all the museums are. This place is always fully booked at night, so make a reservation, or go for lunch. |

Another typical Amsterdam lunch place is Singel 404. You can sit outside on the canal on nice days. |

Restaurant Meden, next to pub 'de pieper' on the canal. More of an up class place. The pieper has a big terrace for sunny days. |

De Belhamel(brouwersgracht 60, (020)-6221095). Located on the corner of 2 canals. Great view. More of an up class place. Not an extensive menu, but very good food. You'll need to make a reservation. |

The 'WaagWaag' is a big square close to central station (behind the red light district). You'll find lots of bars and restaurants here. |

For dancing, go to de Melkweg, Paradiso or the Arena . Arena is a bit out of town, but you might find the other places are too packed, and Arena has great parties on Saterday. They also have a bar. And it's a youth hostels so you can crash there if needed. |

And of course there's plenty coffeeshops. Just ask for the menu, or tell them what you're looking for. |

To take a break from the city, head for the Vondelpark, it's a big park in the middle of the city. Especially on sunny days this park is packed with locals sunbading, drinking, playing footie, making music. |
